    $50/month one day a week, $85/month two days a week or drop in for $15/class.
    Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:30 am

    Adult Ballet caters to the individuals in the class, moving at the pace of the students. Basic ballet positions and combinations provide physical and mental challenges that focuses on increased core strength, balance and flexibility. Elongate, and tone your body with artistic expression.

    For beginners this class is an introduction to the creative medium of clay and is designed for adults with little or no experience with ceramics. The first part of the class will be dedicated to learning the characteristics of clay and exploring hand and slab-building techniques to create functional ware or sculptural forms for the beginner. As the session progresses students can continue on with hand-building or will be introduced to the potter’s wheel to find their own creative expression form. More advanced students are encouraged to further develop their skills and creative expressionism with various decorating and glazing techniques. Students should purchase a basic ceramics tool kit (available on-line, at Michael’s, Jerry’s Artarama, or can be purchased from the ESO at cost), as there are limited tools available in the classroom. All clay must be purchased through ESO Arts Center. Firing charge is included in the price of this class. Open studio hours are available during ESO business hours.

    Clay techniques including pinching, coil, slab construction in functional and non-functional (abstract/sculptural) purposes will be explored, followed by wheel throwing techniques. INT-ADV students will also explore the construction of lids, spouts, expanding forms, trimming and forming feet, as well as creating handles plus learn to create your own chop/stamp.

    This course is created for beginner to intermediate level students. Techniques in wheel throwing, trimming and glazing will be taught. Students may make cups, bowls, plates, vases and other ceramic forms in this session. This class is designed for those interested in throwing on the potter’s wheel. If needed we will address the hand building skills of pinch, coil and slab work. Students will need a basic “Ceramics kit” (available on-line, at Michael’s, Jerry’s Artarama or ESO at cost.

    Clay may be purchased through ESO Arts Center. Firing charge is included in class price.

    Registered pottery students are invited to take advantage of our Open Studio, available during ESO business hours.

    Join Ottavia Turner, a dedicated and passionate instructor, who loves to share her knowledge in sewing and fashion with students! Through 6 weeks of hands-on classes, Ottavia will pass along her expertise with aspiring sewers of all levels. From sewing machine basics, to assembling your pattern this course is gauged for each student to finish one patterned project per 6 week course.

    Why take a sewing class at ESO? Learn a skill you may have never explored. While basic sewing skills can be an outlet for creativity they can also save you a lot of money over the course of your life. By having the skills learned in a sewing class you can repair and tailor clothes to fit for yourself and your family!

    Long spacious tables in the ESO Art Studio and an adequate number of Sewing Machines allow students to work on projects in a large spacious atelier with the companionship and motivation of other students.

    ** Some materials may be provided by the arts center. Students are encouraged to purchase patterns and fabric that they prefer to work with. Please do not make any pattern or fabric purchases until consulting with Ottavia on the first day of class.

    Bring your pet photos, landscapess and flower motifs in mind to create a master with the guidance of a painter of great talen and esperience; Diana will help you paint a watercolor, guiding students through basic – advanced techniques.     Over two and a half decades of teaching students from their teens to their 90s, we’ve seen a lot of student success stories, as they won writing competitions and publishing contracts in various venues — from magazines, literary journals, and small literary presses, to New York City publishing houses.

    a 10 week eeries, this community writing workshop for aspiring and published writers of fiction and creative nonfiction, providing reading of work, group discussion and critique, and editing & publishing advice from two authors with over 50 published books between them. Meets once a week for 10 weeks. Students bring in their work at each meeting for reading, discussion and editorial guidance. Beginning to Advanced Level, ages 16 and up.     Megan Cartwright is a choral director and music teacher with experience teaching all levels. She is a graduate of James Madison University, and holds a Masters of Music Education from Boston University. Mrs. Cartwright recently served as the High School Choir Repertoire and Resources Chair for the Virginia chapter of the American Choral Directors Association. Mrs. Cartwright has performed as a soloist and as a professional chorister. Career highlights include directing musicals with her students. Currently, Mrs. Cartwright is working as a music teacher for Arts Enter at the Historic Palace Theatre in Cape Charles, Virginia and at the Eastern Shore’s Own Arts Center. Mrs. Cartwright enjoys spending time with her husband Chris and four children while she pursues performing, teaching, and working with young musicians.

    Music from the Ground Up:
    Tuesdays 7-9pm
    120$ per month
    This class is intended for beginners ages 10-Adult.

    Music from the ground up: This class is intended to give students an overview of music as a whole. This includes the fundamentals of music theory, ear training, and performance. As well as listening to different genres of music and getting a cursory education in music history. Classes will include basic ear training and theory exercises culminating in an examination as well as a song/composition performance on their chosen instrument. If they pass they can advance to the next class level which is Writing Music.



    Writing Music:
    Saturdays 4-6pm
    150$ per month
    Ages 12-Adult.

    Writing Music: This class is intended to show students different methods of writing music. Starting with a single instrument and some paper and then progressing to using the notation software Guitar Pro to write for several instruments simultaneously. This class is intended for intermediate students who already have some experience playing music. A minimum of 2 years is preferred.

    Barb teaches a variety of fitness classes all during the week, take as many classes with Barb as you would like for one great price. Fitness classes include:

    – Dance Fit (M/W 8:30-9:30 a.m.): An easy-to-follow, fun-filled class where you dance to your favorite music from pop and rock, disco to Latin beats & everything in-between. Dance Fit is for everyone, so start dancing your way to fitness!

    – Barre Intensity (T/TH 8:30-9:25 a.m.): A full-body workout at the barre that focuses on low-impact and small movements that strengthen & tone your entire body. This class is for all fitness levels. Mat Required

    – Morning Yoga Stretch (T/TH 9:30-10:15 a.m.): Get energized and begin your day with a yoga stretch routine to stretch your muscles, increase your range of motion & improve your flexibility. For all ages & fitness levels. Mat required.

    – Fit 55+ (T/TH 10:30-11:30 a.m.): Stay fit as you age. This class is done either standing or sitting, mixes low-impact aerobics, balance, weight training & stretching routines to improve overall fitness. So let’s get moving, come & join the fun and meet new friends.

    This class is tailored to suite all levels and incorporates functional movement, yoga postures and sequences with guided relaxation to support mind, body an breath awareness.

    Gwen took her first yoga class in 2001 and felt mooved to learn more. She enrolled in the YogaFit teacher training and has been teaching since 2009. SHe completed her training in Rishikesh, India, earning her 500 hour certificate. The mind, body and spirit connection just makes sense to Gwen, “I want to help everyone experience the joy that yoga has brought me.” When not practising yoga Gwen likes to walk, hike, kayak, read and travel with her family. She can be found on Instagram and facebook.

    Comedy Workshop taught by Terry Withers,

    Students will learn simple and fun exercises that will introduce them to the hilarious world of improv comedy and form a foundation on which to perform off the cuff comedy scenes. Attendees should dress comfortably in clothes that make movement easy. Find out for yourself why so many have been bitten by the improv bug. (Spoiler Alert: it’s because improv is a ton of fun!) This class is suitable for mature teens and adults.

    Self-defense is a set of awareness, assertiveness, verbal confrontation skills, safety strategies, and physical techniques that enable someone to successfully escape, resist, and survive violent attacks. Join Sensei Mike Muender to learn the art of self defense using jujutsu martial arts training.

    Mike Muender has taught Judo on the Eastern Shore since 2004.
